How to stop stress from ruining your sleep
When you’re stressed your body is designed to stay alert, and so falling asleep can be really difficult. Being tired doesn’t make managing stress any easier, so making a routine to wind down before bed helps combat this tiring consequence of stress and create a sleep rhythm.
Doing a breathing exercise can slow down your body and release some of your built up tension. Doing a muscle relaxation exercise where you tense and release different parts of your body is another way to achieve this.
Lighting is really important for your body’s inbuilt sleep cycle. This cycle, your circadian rhythm, is disrupted by the blue light emitted by your TV, computer, and phone screen because it mistakes the blue of the screen for the blue of the sky. Avoiding screens for an hour before bed is the best way to counteract this problem.
